A Run Disney Weekend is a great experience and there can be many questions about how it works. I have the answers. My more than 10 years of experience with Run Disney can help you get from pre-registration to the Finish Line.

How I Can Help You With Your Run Disney Experience

I have been participating in Run Disney for over 10 years. Once you start, it’s hard to stop! Taking part in a Run Disney event is a great way to motivate yourself to stay in shape, or begin the process of getting in shape. You must register months in advance, which gives you plenty of time to train. Besides all the races on the property, there are also Virtual ones.

Run Disney says, “Every Mile is Magic,” and I agree. There is a variety of entertainment along the way, which always includes Character sightings. Depending on the length of the run, you may see High School Bands, DJs, a Gospel Choir, Drummers, and more. Of course, it is Magical running through Disney Parks. The Parks you run through vary, depending on the race you choose.

There are 4 Run Disney weekends a year at Walt Disney World. There are also races at Disneyland and in other Disney Parks around the world. (This is subject to change). I focus on the events in Disney World. Note that the 5K’s are not timed, and are mainly a Fun Run.

January – Marathon Weekend is the only event that includes a Marathon. There is a 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, and a Marathon. There is also a Challenge, where you run more than one race. This is usually held early in January.

FebruaryPrincess Hall-Marathon Weekend – There is a 5K, 10K, and Half-Marathon, as well as a Challenge, where you run more than one race. This is usually the last weekend in February.

AprilSpring Surprise Weekend – There is a 5K, 10K, and a 10 miler. There is also a challenge, where you run more than one race. This date varies the most and is sometime in April. It depends on the Easter Holiday, and Spring Breaks each year.

NovemberWine and Dine Half-Marathon Weekend. There is a 5K, 10K, and Half-Marathon. There is also a challenge where you run more than one race. This is usually the first weekend in November and is held during the Wine and Dine Festival. This weekend ends with a party in EPCOT for the runners. Those who participate in the Half-Marathon get a free ticket, and others, including non-runners/family members, can purchase a ticket. After EPCOT closes, the party is from 10 pm to 1 am. However, with the ticket, you are allowed in early, sometimes as early as 5 pm.

My Run Disney Pro Tips

RegistrationTo register and to get in, you have to plan because most races sell out fast. You have to be online when registration begins. It is helpful to set up an account ahead of time, and I can help you do that, as well as fill you in on what you need to know about how it works, and what you are agreeing to when you register.

Run Disney

Plan your Run Disney Vacation – Let me help you plan your stay. I can help you decide the best resort for you, depending on your budget and length of stay. You may want to create a group stay. (Many women do a “girls’ weekend,” during the Princes Half-Marathon Weekend).

You only need a small deposit to reserve your room, with the total due 30 days before you check in.

Training – run Disney has effective training programs for each race length. I can help you decide what will most likely work for you based on these plans. I am willing to be your “Accountability Partner” to help you reach your goal.

Race Weekend – When you choose to do a run Disney weekend, I will most likely be there to meet up with you, and in case I am not, I am available by text or phone.

The EXPO starts the first day of the Weekend at ESPN World of Sports– usually on Thursday, except for Marathon Weekend when it is on Wednesday. You must attend the EXPO at least the day before your race to pick up your bib and shirt. You cannot pick up your bib on race day. There are many great exhibitors for your shopping pleasure. The Run Disney merchandise is so popular that it is in a different building, and there is a Virtual Que for the first day of the EXPO for this merchandise, which I can help you navigate.

What To Expect On Race Day

Race Morning

Run Disney races start very early. Most start at 5 am, but since there are so many people, they must get to the start line, the first bus from your resort can be as early as 2:30 am. I am usually on the first bus. You will not be bored. I am always amazed that so many people are up and having such a great time at 3:00 am! There is a DJ and people are warming up and dancing, as well as opportunities for Character photos. The Characters are usually the ones connected to the theme of the race. There are also food trucks and coffee of course.

Baggage Check – They have special bags available and a lot of trucks to check things that you want to make sure you have when you finish that you cannot carry with you.

Getting to the start line – Each corral has a closing time, so you must be in your corral at a certain time. The entertainment continues as you wait in your corral. They release each wave of each corral approximately every 2 minutes. Each wave gets a countdown and fireworks at its start (see video above).

During the Race

Photos and fun along the way – Along with all the entertainment, The Disney PhotoPass Photographers will be on the course, mainly as you run through the parks. They will be in green tents – so make sure you look for them and smile – or jump – as many people do. I can help you learn how to make sure you know how to link your bib so that you can see and purchase your photos. Photos are included when you purchase Memory Maker.

Run Disney Finish Line –You will be greeted by at least one character who is waving to everyone to congratulate you. There are stands at the finish line for all of your friends and family to see you come in. You will be given your medal, water, PowerAde, and of course, a banana! You can then make your way to the “Reunion Area” to meet up with your friends and family. Don’t forget to get your “I did it” Photos!

After The Race

After the race – Follow the signs to get the bus back to your resort. Wear your medal and shirt proudly as you celebrate your accomplishment. Cast members and others will continue to congratulate you!

You can do this and I can help! Schedule a consultation today!
